How Shade Love Built a Stronger Multi-Channel Marketing Foundation

When a growing brand invests in marketing, the answer is rarely “post more.”

The bigger question is whether the brand’s social media, website, email, paid campaigns, search visibility, and overall customer journey are actually working together.

That became the focus of our work with Shade Love, a New York-based custom window treatment brand offering made-to-order drapes, Roman shades, roller shades, and other premium window treatments.

Personalized Creative began working with Shade Love in March 2025. What started primarily as an organic social media partnership evolved over time into broader support across email automation, paid social, website optimization, SEO, and AI search visibility.

The result was not one isolated campaign or viral moment. It was the gradual development of a stronger digital marketing foundation built around testing, performance data, and the changing needs of the business.

The Challenge: Building Awareness in a Competitive Home Interiors Market

Shade Love entered a crowded category.

Consumers shopping for custom window treatments have options ranging from low-cost online retailers to premium showroom brands. For Shade Love, marketing needed to do more than generate awareness. It also needed to communicate why custom window treatments were worth considering, reduce some of the intimidation surrounding the buying process, and help customers understand the brand’s value.

When we began working together, Shade Love’s Instagram had been inactive for several months and had a relatively small audience.

Rather than jump directly into content creation, Personalized Creative began with marketing research.

We reviewed:

  • target audiences

  • competitors

  • industry positioning

  • organic social opportunities

  • paid social best practices

  • content opportunities

  • email marketing

  • Pinterest

  • broader digital marketing opportunities

That research became the foundation for Shade Love’s initial marketing strategy.

Rebuilding Shade Love’s Organic Social Presence

Our first priority was establishing a consistent social presence across Instagram and Facebook.

The early strategy combined educational content, product-focused posts, Reels, design inspiration, trends, brand personality, and engagement-driven content.

But the goal was never simply to maintain a content calendar.

Each month, we reviewed performance to understand which formats and topics were helping the brand generate reach, engagement, profile activity, and website traffic.

Over time, Shade Love’s Instagram grew from 48 followers in March 2025 to 1,798 followers by May 2026.

By Q1 2026, Instagram generated:

  • 37,985 reach

  • 3,836 content interactions

  • 2,248 link clicks

  • 2,487 profile visits

Follower growth, interactions, and link clicks all exceeded the quarterly targets.

Those results were especially notable because boosted-post spend had decreased significantly compared with the previous quarter.

Why Bigger Numbers Were Not Always Better

One of the most important parts of the Shade Love strategy was learning when not to chase a metric.

Giveaways, for example, could produce impressive follower and engagement spikes. But high engagement did not automatically mean the people interacting were likely to become customers for custom window treatments.

Instead of optimizing solely for reach or follower count, we began placing more emphasis on:

  • qualified engagement

  • website traffic

  • educational content

  • product consideration

  • content that supported the buying journey

This is one of the reasons we believe marketing reports should do more than list whether metrics increased or decreased.

The more valuable question is:

Did the metric move us closer to the actual business goal?

Knowing When to Shift Resources Between Marketing Channels

Pinterest offered another useful lesson.

Because home decor and interior design perform naturally well on Pinterest, the platform initially appeared to be an obvious opportunity for Shade Love.

Our performance analysis showed something more specific.

Shade Love’s strongest Pinterest content was tied to searchable, evergreen website content such as blogs. Without enough supporting content and posting volume, maintaining Pinterest simply for the sake of being present was unlikely to produce the strongest return on the team’s available time.

Instead of continuing to invest resources in a channel without the content ecosystem needed to support it, we recommended temporarily reducing Pinterest efforts and reallocating those resources elsewhere.

That did not mean Pinterest was a bad channel for the brand.

It meant the timing was not right.

As Shade Love develops more evergreen, search-friendly content, Pinterest can once again become valuable, particularly because visual discovery platforms can also support broader search and AI visibility.

Supporting Shade Love With Email Automation and Paid Social

Our work also expanded beyond organic content.

Personalized Creative built and supported several automated email flows, including welcome, abandoned checkout, post-purchase, and transactional customer journeys.

Paid Meta campaigns were also part of the engagement.

Our role included editing brand-provided video content, implementing campaigns, monitoring performance, and supporting creative execution.

In this case, we are careful not to overstate paid-media results.

Many of the campaigns drove swatch purchases, which are intentionally low-cost entry products. Because a customer may order a swatch and purchase a much higher-value custom window treatment later, immediate return on ad spend does not tell the full story without reliable downstream attribution.

Good marketing analysis means understanding what a metric can tell you and what it cannot.

Expanding the Strategy Into SEO and AI Search Optimization

When our expanded engagement with Shade Love resumed in July 2026, the focus shifted significantly toward organic discoverability.

Traditional Google search remained important, but the way consumers discover and evaluate brands was changing. More people were using AI-powered search and answer tools to research products, compare companies, understand options, and make purchasing decisions.

For Shade Love, that meant the website needed to do more than rank for relevant searches. It also needed to clearly communicate:

  • what the brand offers

  • who it serves

  • how its products differ

  • which product options are available

  • what customers can expect from the buying process

  • consistent information about pricing, lead times, materials, and product features

Our SEO and AI search work included:

  • updating page titles and meta descriptions

  • improving heading structure

  • clarifying product and brand information

  • optimizing image titles and alt text

  • improving lookbook content

  • reviewing indexing issues

  • strengthening internal content consistency

  • establishing Google Search Console benchmarks

  • tracking traffic from AI assistants

  • improving entity and brand clarity

  • reviewing product information for consistency across the site

Early SEO and AI Search Results

Because SEO and AI search optimization compound over time, we view the first months of performance as early indicators rather than final results.

In the first month after expanding our focus into SEO and AI visibility:

  • organic search impressions increased 38%

  • organic search sessions increased 16%

  • average Google search position improved from 25.8 to 22.5

  • AI-assistant sessions increased 71%

More recent Google Search Console data also showed increasing search activity across important pages, including Shade Love’s homepage and Roman shades content.

We continue to monitor these trends over a longer period before attributing all search growth directly to specific optimizations.

What Made the Shade Love Marketing Strategy Work?

The strongest part of this partnership has been its ability to evolve.

Shade Love did not need the exact same marketing priorities in March 2025 that it needed in July 2026.

Initially, the brand needed greater social consistency and awareness.

As the social program matured, we had more data to identify what was and was not worth continuing.

As the business evolved, the focus broadened toward website discoverability, customer education, SEO, and AI search.

Instead of protecting a predetermined list of deliverables, we adjusted where marketing time was being invested.

That meant:

Testing what worked.
We continually evaluated content topics, formats, platforms, and promotional tactics.

Questioning vanity metrics.
A follower or engagement increase was only valuable if it supported the broader marketing objective.

Reallocating resources.
When a platform did not have the content or resources needed to succeed, we did not continue simply because it was included in the original plan.

Expanding with the business.
The engagement evolved from social media management into a broader digital marketing partnership.

The Results at a Glance

Since Personalized Creative began working with Shade Love:

  • Instagram grew from 48 to 1,798 followers

  • Q1 2026 generated 37,985 Instagram reach

  • Q1 generated 3,836 content interactions

  • Q1 generated 2,248 Instagram link clicks

  • early SEO work coincided with a 38% increase in organic search impressions

  • organic search sessions increased 16%

  • average Google search position improved from 25.8 to 22.5

  • traffic from AI assistants increased 71%

But the larger result is a marketing program that is considerably broader and more data-informed than where it started.

What Other Growing Brands Can Learn From This Case Study

Shade Love’s experience illustrates something we see often with growing businesses:

The marketing tactic that gets you to the next stage may not be the tactic you need forever.

Social media might initially be the priority. Later, the biggest opportunity may be email automation, SEO, website conversion, paid media, search visibility, or something else entirely.

That is why Personalized Creative approaches ongoing marketing partnerships around business priorities rather than rigid deliverable lists.

The goal is not to sell a brand more marketing.

The goal is to identify which marketing work deserves attention right now and continuously adjust as the data changes.

FAQs

What marketing strategies work well for home and interiors brands?

Home and interiors brands benefit from a mix of visual storytelling, education, search visibility, email, paid support, and website optimization. The strongest strategy depends on where the customer is in the buying journey.

For Shade Love, social media helped build awareness and interest, while educational content, website improvements, email automation, SEO, and AI search optimization supported deeper consideration. The key was not relying on one channel, but using each channel for a specific role and adjusting priorities based on performance.

How can an ecommerce brand improve its SEO and AI search visibility?

Start by making the website easier for both people and search systems to understand.

For Shade Love, that included improving page titles and meta descriptions, heading structure, product and brand clarity, image optimization, internal consistency, indexing, and the way important product details were communicated across the site.

AI search visibility also depends on clear entity information and consistent answers to questions about what the brand offers, who it serves, how products differ, and what customers can expect. We also established benchmarks in Google Search Console and began tracking traffic from AI assistants so future changes could be measured over time.

How do you know when to shift marketing resources to a different channel?

A channel should earn its place in the strategy based on business goals, available resources, and performance, not simply because the brand has an account there.

With Shade Love, Pinterest was a good example. Searchable, evergreen content performed well on the platform, but the brand did not yet have enough supporting content to justify making Pinterest a major priority. Rather than continuing to invest time there for the sake of consistency, we recommended reallocating effort to stronger opportunities and revisiting Pinterest as the content ecosystem grows.

The question is not always, “Does this channel work?” Sometimes it is, “Is this the best place to invest our resources right now?”

How should brands measure social media success beyond follower growth?

Follower count is only one signal, and it can be misleading when viewed on its own.

A stronger measurement approach looks at metrics such as qualified engagement, link clicks, profile visits, website traffic, saves, shares, and whether content is helping move people closer to a meaningful business action.

For Shade Love, giveaways could generate noticeable spikes in followers and engagement, but those audiences were not necessarily the most likely to purchase custom window treatments. That led us to place more emphasis on traffic, product consideration, and higher-intent engagement rather than optimizing solely for the biggest top-line number.
